The Business of Art Program

The Business of Art Program, created by JEDI in partnership with Cascade Small Business Development Center and the Siskiyou Arts Council, has provided business assistance and resources for visual artists, musicians, writers and arts-associated businesses in Siskiyou County since 2001. Project activities build on successes of the past, as we work together to increase prosperity and growth. Services for arts businesses are included in all of JEDI's ongoing programs and workshops. In addition to JEDI programs, services for artists are available through the Siskiyou Arts Council.. Past and current services include:

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Online Artists Registry Siskiyou Arts Council is pleased to offer a Registry for the Visual, Literary and Performing Arts in Siskiyou County. Each artist in the registry has an individual web page, and linked gallery and interview pages, featuring their work and services. The on-line Registry is available free to all SAC members. By becoming a Friend of Siskiyou Arts Council you are also invited to create and participate in our programs and events, through which you may share and promote your art in a cooperative environment.

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Fiscal Sponsorship and Grant Applications The Siskiyou Arts Council works with independent projects throughout Siskiyou County with both with full fiscal sponsorship, and with various levels of support. Full fiscal sponsorship allows artists to parter with SAC's non-profit 501(c)3 status, often a requiremet for grant funding.

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Marketing Assistance Siskiyou Arts Council offers services to help artists promote their work. During the summer of 2005, artists were invited to take part in one-on-one marketing support services, includng profssional photography, interviews and web page development, with Tatania Diacoff, a Ford Foundation intern with SAC. The availability of foundation and grant support determines the extnt of these services from SAC.

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Teaching Resources SAC is often asked, "Is there a list of people who can teach classes?" To than end, artists who wish to teach are invited to join the SAC database of teachers for the arts. The Teacher Survey, a pdf file, is available online.

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Monthly Ars Calendar and Newsletter SAC helps artists promote events, classes, and programs through the monthly email newsletter set free to subscribers, the online Siskiyou Arts Calendar of Events, and the News and Announcement page at the SAC website. To submit an arts related announcement for this page, please e-mail SAC with your information.

The Siskiyou Arts Council~Video Projects The Siskiyou Arts Council works with community television MCTV to produce programs and videos featuing the work of Siskiyou Couny arists. Contact SAC for information on how you can participate in upcoming video productions.

Community Art Walks and Artist Showcases During the summer 2003, JEDI's Business of Art Program teamed with the Siskiyou County Visitors' Bureau, the Siskiyou Arts Council and area Chambers of Commerce to create a program of community art walks in communities throughout the county. Several towns have carried on this excellent program through the efforts of arists and business orgnizations, primarily Mt. Shasta's Third Friday Art Walks, ad Dnsmuir's annual ArtWalk. SAC offers ongoing support for these programs and all communities intrested in establishing Art Walk events.
